muscle energy technique + myofascial release

Service Description

Have you heard of fascia? It's the lesser known of the soft tissues but incredibly important. It's a connective tissue; a weblike netting that connects, surrounds and covers every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve, fiber and muscle in the body, holding it all in place and sending signals. It provides internal structure and has a sensory system (much like the nervous system) that makes it almost as sensitive as skin. It acts a bit like fabric does where it can be bunched, scrunched, shrunken, stretched or damaged with scarring from surgery or injury. Some areas of the body have thicker bands of fascia and if they become too tight it can cause unwanted tension on joints or posture. Adhesions or overuse can cause tight pulling or slack in dysfunctional directions causing compensations and dysfunctions. Because it encases muscles, if it is not pliable enough or if the muscles develop and swell too quickly within, painful constriction, or whats known as compartment syndrome can result. Myofascial techniques (MYO.) focus on releasing, lengthening, stretching and smoothing fascia. An ideal treatment for managing Plantar Fasciitis, ITB pain and Fibromyalgia symptoms. Fascia is also believed to be where the body stores up emotional energy or trauma when it's not able to be processed properly - this makes "talking" and working with the fascia effective at releasing that energy to improve tension and stress responses held within the body. Muscle Energy Technique (M.E.T) is a manual therapy that resets the muscle length through isometric contraction. In other words training it into a new resting position with a trick of force. This can help lengthen muscles that have become short from injury, incorrect posture or daily ergonomics. It is used in remedial treatments and can greatly improve postural dynamics and range of motion in many cases.
